REFCOM has been running an Elite voluntary best practice company registration scheme since 1996, to promote environmentally responsible refrigerant management. REFCOM recognised early on the need for employers to better control the use of refrigerant and prevent their release to atmosphere.  

In 2009, REFCOM Certification Limited was appointed by the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) to operate a certification body under the stationary equipment provisions of the Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases Regulations. 

REFCOM was also appointed by the Department of Environment in Northern Ireland under separate NI regulations. 

The latest F-Gas regulations are moving towards the high standards already set by REFCOM Elite.
